Prince Philip Hospital is a 200 bed District General Hospital located on the outskirts of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
The Trust, like others in the region, had been faced with long waiting times and staffing pressures for multiple reasons, including internal recruitment and location constraints.
Your Medical Services rose to the challenge of removing these pressures from the Trust and entered a tender competition with many competitors. YMS won the rights to service delivery with a score of 97.43%.
YMS commenced with the Dermatology Campaign by utilising a See and Treat model, with a team of six staff deployed every weekend.
The patient mix was comprised of general adult, inflammatory cases, skin lesions and biologic patients. We worked closely with the Trust’s management, ensuring that we adhered to their processes and guidelines at all times and therefore allowing a smooth delivery of the service, without any disruption to Trust staff.
Weekly teleconferences were carried out to monitor campaign progress, patient feedback and outcomes.
After 8 weeks of service delivery, YMS had completed the quota of patients on the waiting list before the deadline; we had even taken biologic patient referrals from a neighbouring Trust.
We had delivered our service to 737 new patients, 6 follow-up patients and administered 124 procedures, which was accomplished ahead of schedule over 8 weekends.
Our Team received unanimously positive feedback from the Trust, who reported that patients were extremely satisfied with the service. At YMS, we value each and every patient and great feedback illustrates the efficiency provided by our model.
We look forward to having further discussions for working with Prince Philip Hospital again.
The Trust had accumulated a Dermatology backlog of approximately 3000 patients up to a 12-month waiting time. Feeling the pressure, the Trust struggled to consult patients with a follow-up review after their initial consultation.
This was due to the closure of neighbouring Dermatology Services and a higher demand for the Trusts own Dermatology Service.
As a result, the Trust began to approach external providers to come up with a solution.
Your Medical Services (YMS) were made aware of the situation and rose to the challenge immediately. A meeting was organised between the Trust and YMS, where a project plan with a quotation was proposed and accepted by the Trust.
Upon implementation, Your Medical Services met with the Team Leaders to discuss the strategy and the prospective Doctors who would be participating throughout the campaign. YMS’s Doctors would also use the Trusts existing resources to increase productivity and reduce patient’s waiting time.
The campaign began when the Clinical Lead approved the list of Doctors.
Every week, Your Medical Services provided the Trust with weekly reports on the expected Doctors for the following weeks schedule, hosted a tele-conference discussing outcomes, patient feedbacks and acquired updates on KPI statistics.
The results were significant. Over a 4 month period Your Medical Services team of consultants were able to help the Trust discharge at a rate of over 55% of patients every weekend, with the Trust’s Nursing team and administrators being able to reach their full potential.
YMS look forward to collaborating on future projects.
YMS really ensure that all teams are integrated and inducted prior to working in any Trust, so we can seamlessly work in hospitals outside our own trust easily and safely.
