All Professions NewsYMS Health and Social Care were fortunate to engage in discussions with several Local Authority Directors who recently guided their councils through the pilot phase of Adult CQC Inspections, ahead of the national rollout later this year. From the conversations we had, it is evident that two key areas of focus during the upcoming inspections will be Assessment/Review Waiting Lists and Effective Leadership.
This raises the question for social care leaders throughout the UK: What actions are you taking to ensure that the people you serve receive appropriate assessments/reviews in the right place and at the right time? Our team at YMS Health and Social Care wants to ensure that Local Authority leaders and their teams feel supported by the independent sector and have the confidence to say that they have explored every available avenue to mitigate the increasing waiting lists ahead of their impending inspection.
We understand that for many councils, social care funding (or the lack thereof) feels like an insurmountable issue. So, why not consider a different approach and look beyond the often-familiar use of agency workers to augment your existing teams? Relying on agency workers often means managing their daily output, recruiting to vacancies that you may already struggle to fill, and dealing with sickness/absence while repeatedly backfilling vacant posts. With little assurance that the agency workers you recruit will remain in their roles for the desired duration following their initial training, it can feel like an endless cycle.
Project work can be a valuable tool to address this issue, and YMS Health and Social Care believes that councils should consider reallocating staffing budgets in a different way. By engaging with a managed assessment provider, councils can completely eliminate on-costs and free up a significant portion of their staffing budget to invest in a service that comes with guarantees and manages the staffing elements of day-to-day work, eliminating the headache of continuously replacing agency personnel, which ultimately leads to further waiting list increases.
We offer several solutions that could support your plans to tackle waiting lists, and each of our services will always be tailored to your processes and needs. Contact us today to learn more about the work we are doing in support of councils and their CQC preparations.
